Heading towards Christmas

25/11/2020

As we approach the end of November we thought we would give you a little insight into the ways we are trying to keep things as normal as possible for the children...
We have done the risk assessment and have a plan in place that reduces the risks of cards being passed from home to school to another home. We will have to be very strict on the timings with this to ensure that we have a safe quarantine area in school and that the cards are quarantined before being handled and then quarantined again before being sent home. If you want your child to bring cards in, they can do so between Tuesday 1st December and Friday 11th December, we will not accept cards before or after this.
Christmas Concert, this will be filmed in the coming weeks and we can't wait! It will be different from most years, but as a spoiler I can reveal there will be a nativity and a fair bit of excited small people jumping around like they are supposed to at Christmas! This will be released via SeeSaw at 10am on Friday 18th December.
Panto, we have access to a theatre production of Sleeping Beauty that has been specially adapted for the pupils of Maesglas. The pupils will see the panto all at the same time but in their separate bubbles on Wednesday 16th December.
Party Day, we have a party day organised for Thursday 17th. Again the children will stay in their classes and in their bubbles but we will have some games and some music. We believe we may even have a special guest visiting (if he can get away at this special time of year) and though he will not be able to come into the classes, he will be able to come as far as the external doors and wave and say hello to the pupils.

So it is business, almost, as usual for us with regard to Christmas at Maesglas. The only things we have had to say an outright no to are our Karaoke morning, which the kids love but is not recommended and to Christmas presents, either for staff or pupils being sent in. We genuinely appreciate the gifts the pupils give us but I am sure you can understand that in the current circumstances it would be very difficult for us to accept them safely.

Important Message for World Diabetes Day

6/11/2020

Dear Parents,
The NHS has asked for this message to be sent out to you as it is World Diabetes Day this weekend.
Undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes in children requires urgent medical attention.
If your child has ANY of the main symptoms of Type 1 diabetes please make an urgent GP appointment or contact the Out of Hours service. The main symptoms are known as the 4 Ts – Thirst, Toilet, Tiredness, Thinner. If you notice your child is thirsty or using the toilet more frequently, is always feeling tired, or has lost weight recently, seek immediate medical advice.
NHS services are very well equipped to look after children safely if they are unwell. Please do not delay seeking medical advice because of Covid-19.
