Ysgol Maesglas first to achieve Investors in Families Quality Mark in North Wales
The staff and families at Ysgol Maesglas are celebrating the fact that they have become the first school in Flintshire to achieve the Investors in Families quality mark. The award (full details are available at http://www.uwtsd.ac.uk/wcee/investors-in-families/) is made to schools that are committed to working with the whole family to improve outcomes for children. Schools have to collect evidence to show how well they are working with families and that they are family friendly. One aspect of the accreditation visit that stood out was the fact that the school had created teams of staff and families to develop the evidence for each of the assessment criteria which demonstrated that the school truly sees families as partners. Gavin Cass, Head Teacher said: I am immensely proud that we are the first school in North Wales to receive the accolade. The IIF award gives us recognition for our continued great work with families and our community. Close working relationships between the school and families is essential to the success of all our learners. Thank you to all of our families for the continued support. Mrs Wendy Dawson, Chair of Governors said: Speaking on behalf of the governing body we are delighted that we have achieved the Investors in Families Award. We are firmly committed to working in partnership with our families. I would also like to thank all of our staff who always work above and beyond. Chris Waterman, Executive Director of IIF said: We are delighted to recognise the continuing commitment of the team at Ysgol Maesglas to the quality mark. The Investors in Families process is a very good way of auditing work with families to improve outcomes for children. One of the keys to success is working with other schools and sharing ideas about how to engage families and we look forward to supporting the school as it continues to develop this important area. We have had a visit from the police this week to discuss the parking outside of school. They have asked us to remind all visitors of the following.
Please be courteous to our neighbours Park safely and considerately Please don't obstruct the footpath Leave room for wheelchairs and prams Many thanks for your help and continued support Due to reduced council budgets, from 1st Feb we will need to charge for the childcare element of the service we provide before school that is linked to Welsh Governments free breakfast club initiative.
The charge will be 50p per day but this will mean that we can open from 7.45am. If we do not receive sufficient funding to cover the costs we will need to review charges at the end of term or end the childcare element of the provision. Many thanks for your understanding with this matter Dear Parents,
As children regurlarly attend indoor PE lessons at school we would just like to remind you to the appropiate action regarding verrucas. The guidelines from the ASA are as follows:- As with most infections, particularly viral, immunity to the virus occurs in time. The majority of skin specialists, are not in favour of treating verrucas. Many feel that because the virus is so widespread, it's better to spread it as much as possible and as early as possible in the lives of children. The use of devices, such as plastic socks, to protect the feet should be discouraged. As with elasticated knee bandages, the socks have limited value other than of attracting attention. The use of a waterproof plaster is sufficient. If your child does have a verucca please inform their class teacher and ensure your child is treated with a sealing gel treatment or wears a waterproof plaster. Below is a brief summary of advice taken from the NHS website. NHS advice for preventing spread of verrucas The advice listed below can help to prevent verrucas developing/spreading Do not share shoes or socks with someone who has a verruca. Avoid scratching or picking your wart or verruca as this will encourage HPV to spread to other parts of your body. Keep your feet dry and change your socks every day to help prevent warts/verrucasdeveloping on your feet. Communal activities Cover your wart or verruca when you are taking part in communal activities. For example with a waterproof plaster, sealing gel treatment when you go swimming or when you are doing physical education at school. Further advice can be found at www.nhs.uk. Thank you for you co-operation in this matter. Good luck to the netball players in the competition this afternoon.
