Childcare for Key Workers From Monday

20/3/2020

We have now received information from Flintshire County Council with regards to how we can provide childcare support for key workers next week. This is based on the current information, we expect more to follow or the weekend. We will be open on Monday 23rd March, providing childcare from 8 am - 5.30pm for one week. It is hoped that these arrangements will be for no more than 5 days and other plans will be in place after that.
The expectation is that any child who can safely be cared for at home should be and it is in exceptional circumstances that you will need to access this provision. The purpose of school closure is ultimately to reduce social contact. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in the wider society.
You will be able to access this childcare at Maesglas if you are a single parent and a vital worker or if both parents are vital workers. The definition for vital workers seems to be ever changing but we have been told for now to use the list we sent out to you yesterday-
Medical professionals including doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics etc.
Other health workers - such as employment in a medical/health setting
Community safety - police force and fire brigade
Education - teachers, classroom support staff, school cleaners/caretakers etc
Workers in childcare/early years settings
Social care/domiciliary care work
Council staff who will be involved in key roles e.g. streetscene operatives, drivers, school escorts, catering staff etc

We expect more information about this definition over the weekend and I will share anything I receive with you as soon as I can.

Breakfast is not provided as part of the service (But we will have something here just in case!) Cold lunch will be provided for your child, however you can send your child in with their own packed lunch. Doors open at 8 and we expect all children to be collected by 5.30. But you can drop off and pick up within that time. Please be aware that we will need to phone our lunch order through to our supplier by 10.30.

This will not be a normal working day at school with teaching staff leading lessons, it is emergency child care within our school setting for those who have no other options.

Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we await further information. I will keep you informed!
